Operation BoatSmart

Operation BoatSmart is a five year boating safety effort, sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard, aimed at high risk vessels, operators, activities, locations and times. It combines the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, United States Power Squadrons, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) and National Water Safety Council (NSWC) for emphasizing the following four cardinal points:

• Wearing life jackets save lives
  
• Boater education saves lives
  
• Safe boats (safely designed, well maintained and properly equipped vessels) save lives
  
• Sober boating saves lives
