Capt. Adam Tunks

Cdr. Capt. Adam Tunks, N

Adam was born in Dallas and started sailing before he started walking!  His parents are avid sailors, and is grandfather was a full-certificate member of the Squadrons.  Adam holds degrees in financial consulting and economics from Southern Methodist University, and spent ten years in the real estate finance industry.  He has recently taken on a new career as a high school Algebra teacher in order to spend more time with his growing family.  He is now enjoying more time with his wife Catherine (our AO!) and son Jeremy, and recently enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime
trip to sail in Tahiti with his family!


Lt/C Doug Osborn, JN

Doug is an Indiana native, born to Navy veterans, who
has been boating as long as he can remember. Growing
up on a lake, and attending Purdue University, he has
degrees in Biochemistry and Process Engineering.
Doug works for Dr Pepper in Plano, doing work centered
on finding ways to manufacture products, making them
stable, and resolving problems. Doug is also a Pilot,
with Single Engine Land, and Glider ratings. His boating
has been on many Midwest lakes and rivers, Lakes
Michigan/Huron/Erie-US and Canada, Virginia/North
Carolina and the ICW, California/SF Bay/Delta, Florida,
and Texas. Activities include brewing, winemaking,
waterskiing, snow skiing, and fitness. With spouse Martha
 they own a 27' Rinker express cruiser, a 35' Baja Outlaw,
and a tender. A lifelong learner, Doug is delighted to
be able to pass on some of his learnings to others.

Jim Jenkins

Lt/C Jim Jenkins, S

Jim is a Texas native, from Gladewater in East Texas.
Jim started sailing with a Hobie 16 on Lakes Lewisville, Texoma and Ray Hubbard. Jim’s last boat was a
Catalina 22 on Lake Ray Hubbard, which he has donated
to a local Sea Scout ship.
Jim graduated from Texas Tech University and is a practicing Certified Public Accountant.  He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children and five grandchildren. Elizabeth is retired from Electronic Data Systems, taught information technology subjects at the University of Texas - Dallas, is an active member of non-profit
organizations and is a Court Appointed Special
Advocate for children in foster care.

P/C Champ Herndon, SN

Champ is a native Texas, born in El Paso.  He grew up
on farms and ranches in OK and KS.  He attended
college at NMMI, and SMU.  Champ and his wife Jan
moved to Dallas in 1955, where he worked for Geotech
Instruments for 43 years.  He bought his first boat,
a 14’ run-a bout with 40 hp Mercury OB engine,
in 1960 and joined DSPS in 1968.  Champ’s early years
on the water were spent water skiing.  After joining DSPS,
he became a “River Rat” - that is, a member of a group
of DSPS power boaters that cruised the TN River,
Intercostal water ways of TX, LA and FL.  Champ and Jan
 with friends in their 23 foot cruisers, crossed the Gulf
Stream to the Bahamas in 1972.  Champ and Jan have
chartered power boats in the San Juan Islands of WA State,
Lake Powell in AZ and the British/US Virgin Islands.
